Ry Oldenburger is a guitarist, songwriter, recording artist, and educator whose career has been shaped by a lifelong dedication to music. Born in the Netherlands, he studied guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007. His formal training provided a strong foundation in performance, composition, and musicianship, while his creative interests led him to develop a distinctive voice as both a performer and songwriter.
As a recording artist, Oldenburger has built a diverse body of work spanning solo releases, collaborative projects, and international recording sessions. He is best known for his collaboration with Keith Caputo (Life of Agony), with whom he co-founded the alternative rock project The Neptune Darlings. The duo released the albums Chestnuts & Fireflies (2011) and Principium Sequentia (2018), with Oldenburger contributing as a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist. Since 2008, he has also served as guitarist in Caputo's solo band, touring extensively throughout Europe and performing in the United States. He has also worked closely with Zoli Téglás (Ignite, Pennywise), recording music in Budapest and co-writing material in Los Angeles for Téglás's rock band Ocean Hills. In addition to these and other collaborations, Oldenburger has released and performed original music under the alias Ryan Oldcastle. His recordings and live performances showcase a broad musical range, combining strong songwriting, expressive musicianship, and a commitment to artistic authenticity.
Alongside his musical career, Oldenburger also works as a visual artist. His paintings are characterized by bold color palettes, energetic brushwork, and semi-abstract forms that emphasize movement and spontaneity. Working in an intuitive and expressive style, he treats painting as a direct extension of his creative practice, where instinct and emotion guide the process as much as structure or concept. This visual work runs parallel to his music, with both disciplines informing each other through shared ideas of rhythm, texture, and emotional expression.
Throughout his career, Oldenburger has viewed music as a lifelong practice of exploration and expression. Whether performing live, creating recordings, or mentoring students, he brings the same spirit of curiosity, dedication, and artistry to every aspect of his work.
now based in Los Angeles, he continues to write, record, perform, and teach, remaining actively engaged in both his creative projects and his work as an educator, and sharing his passion for music with audiences and students alike.
